AURA joins National Air Transportation Association

AURA Adds Expertise of Digital Aviation Infrastructure and Command-and-Control Communication Services to NATA Advance Air Mobility Committee

Washington, DC & McLean, Va. (August 1, 2023) – AURA Network Systems, the Virginia-based startup on a mission to deliver an FAA-compliant nationwide network to accelerate advanced levels of autonomy in the National Airspace System, has joined the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) while also announcing that its business-development lead will serve on the industry group’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) committee.

Last November, NATA announced the launch of its AAM Committee enhancing its focus on advanced air mobility in the airport, FBO, and air charter ecosystems.

AURA CEO Bill Tolpegin said joining NATA amplifies voices in the fast-moving industry and predicted Lisa Peterson, the company’s vice president of business development, would be an excellent addition.

“Lisa is a recognized leader in the communications and transportation industries,” said Tolpegin. “In addition to her previous experience with AAM research and development programs for both FAA and NASA, she’s actively engaged with many state and local agencies to help facilitate integration of the new physical and digital infrastructure necessary for safe, scalable AAM operations.”

“I’m really honored to serve on the AAM committee,” said Peterson. “NATA is a problem-solving association, and its efforts to ensure critical infrastructure is in place to support AAM are commendable. As aircraft manufacturers and part 135 operators pursue FAA certifications and approvals, ground infrastructure delivering secure and reliable voice and data communications solutions is a must – particularly for commercially scalable operations that will unleash the true potential of this industry.”

Megan Eisenstein, NATA Managing Director, Industry Affairs & Innovation as well as staff liaison for the AAM Committee, noted, “Lisa will add an important perspective on digital infrastructure related to communications, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) to NATA’s AAM Committee. As a member, AURA will be instrumental in raising industry awareness of how this technology will be adapted to integrate AAM safely and efficiently into the current aviation ecosystem.”
